How long have you been doing CrossFit?
“Since February, 2016.”

How did you first discover CrossFit and what made you decide to start?
“My boyfriend Dave gave signed me up as a “Birthday gift.” It actually turned out to be one of the best gifts I’ve received.”

Tell us about your sports/fitness background:
“I mostly worked out with a trainer or on my own at the gym. I have a goal to run a marathon and haven’t reached that yet, but did complete a half marathon.”

What sorts of positive changes (mental, physical, emotional) have you noticed in your life since getting involved at No Excuses?
“No Excuses has helped me to push myself and body to do things I’m not comfortable with. I’ve never had a lot of upper body strength and I feel like I’m improving that every time I come into the gym.”

What keeps you coming back and motivated?
“Anytime I see improvement or feel like I’ve accomplished something I’m not sure about motivates me to come back. Of course the coaches and all the people at the gym are a huge reason to come back. It truly does feel like a family, which seems to be a sentiment that everyone who comes to No Excuses feels.”

In what other ways do you use your fitness?
“In everything I do. I feel like what I do in the gym gives me the energy to do other things in my everyday life.”

Who or what motivates/inspires you?
“I love to see how strong some of the women are who come to No Excuses. Its amazing to me when I see the weight on their bars. Definitely motivating.”

Please share with us a favorite CrossFit or No Excuses moment.
“I was doing medicine ball cleans over and over and I just couldn’t get the technique down. Brandon was standing there and and said one thing and all of a sudden it clicked and I did it correctly. He said “You just made me look like the greatest CrossFit coach ever!” I still laugh when I think about it.”

Name one goal you would like to achieve in CrossFit.
“I would love to be able to do a overhead squat with weight on the bar and Chris Fischer to be standing there and tell me I did it the right way!!!”

Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of the gym:
“I love to do anything that includes spending time with my family and close friends. I value my time with them more than anything.”

What advice do you have for someone just starting CrossFit or is on the fence about starting?
“Keep coming back. Sometimes its frustrating and really hard. But there are excellent coaches that have so much patience and really want you to do well. Its a different way of working out and that can be challenging but stick with it.”

What do you love most about No Excuses?
“That it does challenge you in a lot of ways, physically and mentally. But the best thing is the people you meet. The coaches are just the best. Everyone is so friendly, encouraging and supportive, I’ve gotten to know some great people!”

Coach Brandon’s Take:
Amy’s boyfriend Dave signed her up for CrossFit and I’m always skeptical when a friend or family member signs another person up. However, has been a great member to No Excuses CrossFit. Not only is she one of our most consistent members in the morning classes, she also does a great job taking coaching cues. She’s improved tremendously with all of her lifts and it’s fun to watch her improve month after month.
