Spotlight Athlete Name: Audrey DiGiovanni Age: 35 Occupation: Mom and commercial real estate manager Favorite WOD: And by ‘favorite’ you mean the lesser of the evils?? Jeff Malmquist – “Basics Spotlight Athlete”
Spotlight Athletes questionnaire Name: Jeff Malmquist Age: Occupation: Favorite WOD so far: Baseline WOD (12min AMRAP, 5 burpees, 10 KBS, 15SDHP) Important Stats (if you tested them): Baseline Time: 1 mile run: 1) How long have you been CrossFitting? I started in early January after receiving classes as a gift from my buddy Chuck who is in the full class. A great gift of health!! How can you beat that? 2) What kept you coming back/motivated? Definitely the camaraderie amongst fellow athletes. I feel like I’m letting them down if I don’t give it my all. 3) How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? Well, in the 3.5 months I have been doing CrossFit, I have actually felt several 4.5 pounds of muscle in the first 2 months. Additionally, just some little things in my daily life are so much easier, such as climbing stairs, getting arduous tasks, such as moving furniture, no longer drain my energy. 4) What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? Burpees. I was so scared of burpees. I was sure I couldn’t even do one. And even though they’re still rough, I know I can at least knock out several in a row and keep on trucking. 5) What is your opinion of the Basics Program at NEA (No Excuses Athletics-CrossFit)? The basics program is awesome. It’s exactly what I need. In my case, I felt the full class was probably too advanced to start out with being a, um, large guy. So it’s a perfect adaptation that will prepare me for the eventual move up. 6) Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit? And one that you have already achieved? The biggest goal I would like to achieve through CrossFit is just to undo 35 years of bad habits of bad eating and ineffective exercise routines. I’d like to make a healthy lifestyle my “normal” lifestyle. But what I have already achieved through NEA is a gaining of confidence and to put away any thoughts of “I can’t”. [...]
