Andre Urquiza – Level 1 Coach
Having always pursued an active lifestyle, I had originally read about CrossFit many years ago when it was starting to flourish through California, but did not have the chance to experience it first-hand until a few years ago. That was a defining moment when one of my best friends and I attempted to complete a WOD that called for 95lb thrusters, and pull-ups, a little workout affectionately named ‘Fran’.
It was brutal.
I had never experienced a workout that taxed my system, and drained me so much in such a short period of time that it’d brought me down to my knees. I don’t think either one of us were able to complete it thoroughly – but that was all it took. I was beaten, defeated, but exhilarated to find out more of what CrossFit was all about, tackling its workouts, and completing them with pride! From then on I started reading about CrossFit, it’s history, attempted to follow the exercises posted on the main site, while learning new skills through the CrossFit Journal publication. The more I learned, the more I wanted to get involved, which led to my Level 1, and Nutrition certification – with Gymnastics and Olympic Lifting being the next two I would like to earn.
On the personal side, I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil until moving to the United States in 1996. I have been an Atlanta resident since 2000, graduating from Georgia State University with a Bachelors Degree in Management Sciences – Focus in Operations Management. I road-raced motorcycles semi-pro in 2004 completing a full season of WERA’s South East Region, and earning my invite to the Grand National Finals at the end of the year. Time-allowing, I enjoy travelling, and experiencing new opportunities and cultures.
I hope to learn something from each individual that walks through the doors at No Excuses CrossFit, and I look forward to being a valuable asset to the entire NEC ‘family’ and helping each and every one of you reach your personal health and fitness goals.

Laura Koller – Level 1, Endurance, and Olympic Lifting Certified CrossFit Coach
I am now 40 years old, and fitness-wise it has been my best year yet, because of CrossFit. I had never been athletic, and was chubby as a teenager and young adult. Well, I’m not anymore!!
I used to just run, until I began to put on body fat and slow down even with running more and more miles – sometimes 50 miles in a week. I’ve run 8 Marathons, plus lots of Half Marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. But, none of that was getting me in shape the way I wanted to be. It wasn’t until I found No Excuses that I was able to finally get fit the way I had always wanted to be. In a matter of a couple of months my body looked better, I felt better, and I was even running faster! I was hooked immediately because I loved the challenge, the variety, and the atmosphere. I was challenged in ways I had never been and I found that I thrive on that. I love pushing myself to try new things and do more and better.
I currently have my Level 1 CrossFit Certification, CrossFit Running and Endurance Certification, and my Olympic Lifting Certification.
I currently Coach the 6am class and Head up the No Excuses CrossFit Endurance Program. I am also available for one-on-one (or group) training classes to help you with specific areas of concern/interest. Times and cost vary, so please contact me to discuss your options.
I was by no means the “jock” in high school, though I was reasonably in shape. While attending Morris Brown College, as any HBCU band alum will tell you, strapping up that snare drum six times a week was a work out in and of itself. That coupled with part time choreography and the bodybuilder training split kept me fit, or so I thought.
In 1994, I began training in martial arts where speed and agility were just as important as power. This is when I learned that all of that weight lifting had made me not only more muscular but slower as well. I was introduced to CrossFit training methods through my current martial arts coach. I’ll be the first to admit I was resistant. After all, I had my way of working out and I felt it was best for me. Then came the wake up call…
A family member had a heath scare that forced me to take a look at reality. I wanted to, needed to be, in better shape. But it was more than that, I wanted to help people to reach their full potential healthwise. Life is too short to do anything but live it fully.
I became ISSA certified in April 2008 and worked briefly as personal trainer at a Luxery Hotel in Atlanta before transitioning into a gym in the Lawrenceville-Suwanee area utlizing the CrossFit methodology. I found from my own exerience of Crossfit training regularly that I became stronger, faster and my body began to become more streamlined, flexible, and function as a unit. In short, CrossFit gets RESULTS.
In March 2009, I earned my CrossFit Level 1 certification and joined the No Excuses Team. My next goal is level 2 certification and I hope to help you reach your individual goals to live a better life.
John “Mac” McGriff – Level 1 Certified CrossFit Coach
I had grown tired of the traditional bodybuilder workouts that built muscle that I couldn’t do anything with. I wanted to find something that was more performance based & that I could really apply to my job as a firefighter.
I “stumbled” upon Crossfit in the summer of 2007. I fiquired since I was a firefighter my first workout would naturally have to be “firefighter fran” .It sounded easy enough, 21-15-9 of a thrusters & pullups in bunkergear while breathing from my air bottle. I was humbled that I could not complete the first round of thrusters & had to give up. At that point the “kool-aid” was running out the corners of my mouth & I optained my Level 1 Certification in Crossfit in Apr 2008.
I’ve been a full-time Firefighter with Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services for 7 years this past July 09. I helped to implement Crossfit into our recruit training program in 2008 with amazing results. I had become aggravated with the fire service as a whole & their archaic views on what fitness was. And more importantly, their lack of willingness to change. I’m thankful that our department looked “outside the box” & I know now that our county is protected be some of the most “functionally fit” firefighters in the business.
I know that these movements that we practice thru Crossfit are how our bodies were designed to function. If we improve our ability to function, we improve our quality of life. If we improve our quality of life we will be able to perform all the common things in our lives uncommonly well.
…. & I finally completed “Firefighter Fran” (3rd attempt) this past May 2009
Will Panaro Robison – Level 1 Certified CrossFit Coach
It all began over three years ago, after being introduced by a coworker (John McGriff) to this fitness regimen known as Crossfit. I remember my first workout, I couldn’t walk or hardly lift my arms after this brutal workout. I was sore for days…
I played football, wrestled and tennis at Dawson County Highschool. During the years of highschool I had weight training as we call it. Every week was the same, just different percentages of your max and different reps. Monday Bench Press/Squats, Tuesdays and Thursdays Agility/Abs, Wednesday Power Cleans, Friday Towel Bench and Box Squats. Nothing ever different. Nothing to shock the system. NO intensity, no yelling, no dropping bumper plates on a bar. I went into Highschool weighing 140lbs at 5′ 11″ and after 4 years I graduated at 152lbs. I could perform some things well but not everything.
Upon Graduation I wired houses during the day and went to EMT school at night. A year after Graduation I began my employment with Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Currently i’m a Firefighter/Paramedic at the Mall of GA and part of the Technical Rescue Team. This is were I was introduced to CF.
Crossfit is the only program that I have successfully used to gain weight, strength, agility, stamina, etc… at the same time. This program has invested me with a desire to learn, persue and the confidence to complete task that seem unreachable in the most grueling of situations. Most of all, CF has invested me with a purpose that cordinated with my God given purpose: To help others, and influence them to help other people. Crossfit No Excuses has given me the ability to make our community healthier and stronger one person at a time through functional movements.
My goals are simple: Help you/myself reach Optimum Physical Fitness of Elite Standards.
