How long have you been doing CrossFit?

“Since December, 2017”

How did you first discover CrossFit and what made you decide to start?

“My sister started Crossfit in 2011 and kept sharing some pretty cool stuff she was doing like jumping on a box, climbing a rope, deadlifts, pull-ups. She became a Crossfit Coach, and relentlessly encouraged me to do CrossFit, but I kept making excuses. I just didn’t think I could do it, and honestly, I was scared. Over the years, we continued to talk about CrossFit, and despite the fact she was looking AMAZING, I still didn’t budge. Well, in November, 2017, I decided to watch “The Fittest…on Earth.” I was in awe watching those athletes. At that moment, I decided to be a part of the CrossFit journey.”

Tell us about your fitness/sports background?

“I played softball from 6 years old through college and well into my 20’s. I love the game! I have, also, had the privilege of coaching softball. I was also a cheerleader in Jr. High and High School. (Go Figure). In terms of my fitness regime, I have always ‘worked out,’ BUT now, for the first time in my life, I feel like I AM truly working out.

What sorts of positive changes (mental, physical, emotional) have you noticed in your life since getting involved at No Excuses?

“Attending the 6:00 am class helps set the tone for my day. I feel amazing, happy, energized and ready to tackle the day. I have a pretty demanding work schedule, and I am more focused, confident, and driven. The evenings are the only time I can spend with my family, so I’m more centered and engaged in them and their activities. Oh….I’ve stopped taking all med(s), too!”

Who or what keeps you coming back and motivated?

“The Coaches, Staff, Members….hands down! I have made life-long friends. The support and guidance I’ve received is unparalleled. It makes me happy to walk in and be a part of this awesome community. Plus, I want to become stronger, faster, and less sore.”

In what other ways do you use your fitness?

“It’s the little things like putting boxes on the top shelf of my closet, or opening a jar, or carrying my laundry upstairs without getting winded, or being able to squat, or bringing in all of my groceries in one trip, or knowing I could pick up my teenage kids if I had to….the list goes on.”

Please share with us a favorite CrossFit or No Excuses moment.

“It was during 18.4 when we had to do deadlifts. I got to the gym early so I could practice, because I had never lifted anything so heavy. I tried and tried to lift 135 lbs, but the bar only moved an inch. I was so scared and just wanted to sneak out. It was my turn…..I got through the 95 lbs okay. When it was time for the 135 lbs., I glanced to my left and there were so many people cheering for and shouting at me. I couldn’t believe it! I managed to lift one then another. My eyes started to well up with tears, and I was trying so hard not to cry. I couldn’t believe everyone was cheering me on. I did 8 deadlifts at 135 lbs with the help of my friends! I’ll never forget that moment.”

Name one goal you would like to achieve in the next year (doesn’t have to be CrossFit related, but it can be)

“BOX JUMPS on a 20 inch box, Pull- Ups, and Overhead Squats. Also, I want to continue to get healthy, eat the right foods and amount!”

Tell us about your hobbies and interests outside of the gym:

“My most favorite thing is watching my kids play sports!”

What advice do you have for someone just starting CrossFit or is on the fence about starting?

“You can do it! Don’t wait! It’s uncomfortable but the most incredible journey…ever.”

What do you love most about No Excuses?

“I love our Community! The training, love, support, fellowship that No Excuses projects is changing life’s. I’m so glad to be a part of it.”
