No Excuses CrossFit places in top 30 in Georgia for Open

Team Purple Reign was the Friday Night Throwdown champion.

The CrossFit Open came to an end this week and after five weeks of workouts, No Excuses CrossFit had several athletes near the top of the Southeast leaderboard.

As a gym, No Excuses CrossFit finished the Open ranked No. 26 in Georgia and No. 116 in the Southeast out of 316 gyms. No Excuses’ best workout as a gym was was 17.2 with dumbbell lunges, cleans and bar muscle ups. The gym had 91 people sign-up for the Open, which is a gym record that surpasses 78 people last year and 66 and 67 the previous years.

No Excuses had six athletes place in the top 100 in the Southeast in their respective division.

In her CrossFit Open debut, Riley Lundin was 29th in the Southeast in the girls 14-15 Teen division and 420th in the world. The top 200 in the world qualify for the Teens online qualifier. Lundin’s older sister, Makena, was 46th in the Southeast in the girls 16-17 Teen division.

Greg Hayes was 62nd in the Southeast in the mens 55-59 division and 620th in the world. Barbara Parsons was 57th in the Southeast in the women’s 60-plus division and 628th in the world. Mike Matthes was 54th in the Southeast in the men’s 40-44 division and 558th in the world. Deb Walston was 26th in the Southeast in the women’s 35-39 division and 439th in the world.

JT Odom tied with Deb Walston for the No. 1 overall athlete from No Excuses CrossFit. JT was ranked 753 in the Southeast.

No Excuses CrossFit’s Spirit of the Open recipients were Margie Mallow, Vince Raia, Nathan Rushin, Lindsay Morris and Riley Lundin. Each week one athlete was recognized for embodying the spirit of the sport of CrossFit.

As a gym, we split the CrossFit Open participants into four teams. Each person earned points for their team in a variety ways. From participating in the workouts and posting a score to making posters for their team to donating food for the North Gwinnett Co-Op.

Purple Reign was the Friday Night Throwdown champion with 3,849 points to hold off Green Machine (3,010), Red Dragons (2,493) and Blue Steel (2,049).

As a gym, No Excuses CrossFit collected nearly three/fourths a ton of food (1,494) for the North Gwinnett Co-Op through our weekly food drive.
