How long have you been CrossFitting?
“I started in February of 2012.”

What keeps you coming back/motivated?
“I love how much I’ve learned and improved over the past couple of years. That being said, I am completely humbled and determined to get better. Every time I touch the barbell, it’s an opportunity to improve.”

How did you find CrossFit?
“A good friend of mine, Kellie Herron, kept telling me about it and since I live close to No Excuses, I decided to drop in and give it a shot.”

What is your athletic background (If applicable)?
“I grew up racing BMX and lifting weights. I spent several years body building at a globo gym and then got burned out. Then, I started P90x and then trail running before I discovered CrossFit.”

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
“CrossFit has completely changed me from the inside out. I know now that I can accomplish anything that I commit to doing. I feel great!.”

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? (muscle up, double unders, heavy deadlift, run a mile, etc.)
“I never thought that I would lift heavy weights again. Although my strength is not what it used to be, it’s pretty damn good for an old guy!”

Who or what motivates/inspires you?
“Honestly, Jesus Christ is the person that has most impacted my life. Being a Christian means everything to me. In the gym, I’d have to say that working out with Glen Wilkins keeps me motivated.”

What is your proudest CrossFit achievement?
“Learning the Oly movements”

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit?
“Muscle ups and to one day snatch my body weight.”

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit?
“I love hanging out with my kids. I love to read and explore new restaurants.”

Any advice for new members?
“In order to learn a new skill, you have to get outside of your comfort zone–you may as well get comfortable being uncomfortable. Don’t be put off by the price of the membership, you’re worth it. Commit to it, and show up!

Any additional thoughts/comments:
“The community at No Excuses is second to none. From the coaches to the members, it’s world class. It’s truly a blessing in my life.”

Coach Brandon’s Take:
“Paul has quietly become one of the strongest people in the gym with a 400-pound deadlift, 325-pound back squat and 265-pound close grip bench press. A big part of that has been his re-dedication to the gym and his positive attitude. Paul always seems to find a way to get in his lift whether it’s in the 9:30 class before work or 7 p.m. class after work. He’s always willing to learn and ask questions to understand a movement better or the purpose of the workout. He’s also known to crack a joke or two and keep the class laid-back.”
