How long have you been CrossFitting?
“3 Years.”

What keeps you coming back/motivated?
“The challenge of getting better at all of my weaknesses and strengths.”

How did you find CrossFit?
My brother told me about a workout called 300 that the actors in the movie 300 did [to prepare for filming]. We did the workout at our local YMCA and limped to the finish.”

What is your athletic background (If applicable)?
“High school basketball and tennis. Recreational sports – football, softball, half/full marathon, and triathlon.”

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
“I started Crossfit with the broad expectations of hoping to get stronger and more fit. Over time, I met some great coaches and did my due diligence to realize that it takes more than just hope. With any of the Crossfit domains, it takes planning and a lot of patience to get better.  It took patience for me to realize I didn’t have the mobility to do an air squat properly and then to even learn what mobility meant.”

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do?
“Bar Muscle ups were in the far distant future and I never thought I could hold a handstand.”

Who or what motivates/inspires you?
“Reading stories or seeing people striving to get better.”

What is your proudest CrossFit achievement?
“My proudest moment is anytime I’m able to complete a Performance WOD as prescribed.”

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit?
“I want to be able to snatch my bodyweight (200lbs)”

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit?
“Cooking, hiking, swimming, eating.”

Any advice for new members?
“I would say not to compare your performance to any other athlete.  We all have our own strengths/weaknesses and different paths to make the better.  Also, don’t hesitate to ask any coach a question.”

Coach Laura’s Take:

“Fumao already came to us as a strong athlete and a good CrossFitter. It has been awesome to see him improve in the time that he has been with us. He is a smart athlete and has put in the work to get where he his now. Fumao was close to moving up to Performance, but made the smart call to wait longer until his skills improved a little more. I think that long-term outlook is something that is very important to continuing to develop in CrossFit as an athlete. It was cool to see Fumao make that decision and now see how he is more able to take on Performance WODs because of it. He is diligent in his pre-workout mobility and his attendance. Like I said, he puts in the work.”
