Fischer’s victory leads No Excuses CrossFit at X&Y competition

ATLANTA — Chris and Tara Fischer, better known as Wall Ball and Chain, took first place at the Atlanta Affiliate League’s X&Y competition on Saturday at Venture CrossFit.

The married couple of nine years had three finishes in the top five in the social division to tie for the championship.

No Excuses CrossFit had 13 teams in the competition on Saturday and one on Sunday and four of them placed in the top 15.

JT and Stacey Odom were 10th and Mike Matthes and Michele Jones were 15th out of 43 teams. Mathew Shamloo and Deb Walston placed 14th out of 35 teams in the competitors division.

The Fischer’s placed fourth in the one-rep max snatch and clean and jerk, fourth in the wall balls, seventh in the 10-minute AMRAP with partner deadlifts and was second by four seconds in the squat pyramid.

No Excuses CrossFit had several athletes hit personal records at the competition.

Mike Matthes went up 15 pounds on his clean, while JT Odom, Adam Perillo and Josef Roberts hit 10-pound personal records on their cleans.

Jon Owings got his first pull-up in the competition and then did four more, while Desta Long doubled her double under personal record.

No Excuses CrossFit athletes will now turn their attention towards the Hugo Open on Saturday, Aug. 22. The in-house competition will feature nearly 20 four-person teams in the scaled and Rx divisions.
