How long have you been CrossFitting?
“I started in March of 2013”

What keeps you coming back/motivated?
“I love the community at No Excuses. I also love the constant change of workouts.”

How did you find CrossFit?
“I heard about Crossfit for a couple of years but was always really unsure whether it was something I could really do. My friend, Jeff Wreyford, was always posting about his WODs on Facebook and one day I asked him to tell me what is was all about. It just happened to be a week before the open house for the new box location so I came and checked it all out. It took me another two weeks to come and do my first WOD but I haven’t looked back since.”

What is your athletic background (If applicable)?
“I really have no athletic background. I was not in any organized sports growing up. I had done different workout regimens over the years but never found anything that I stuck with consistently for more than a three months or so. I get bored too easily.”

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
“I feel so much stronger than I ever have. I am always amazed at what I can accomplish in each WOD. I have a tendency to talk myself out of stuff before I even try and Crossfit has made me feel like I can do so much more than I ever thought possible. My negative self talk has all but stopped. When I find myself feeling like I can’t do something, I remind myself of what I did in the last WOD and how good that felt.”

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? (muscle up, double unders, heavy deadlift, run a mile, etc.)
“Anything with a barbell. I remember my first few WODS and looking out on the floor seeing everyone doing these lifts and I thought how am I ever going to get to that level. Every time I do it, I feel so accomplished.”

Who or what motivates/inspires you?
“Every person in the gym inspires me. Everyone is at different levels and that is great motivation to keep pushing.”

What is your proudest CrossFit achievement?
“I think the first time I Rx’d a workout. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s great to see progress.”

“Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit.”
One strict pullup; that would be awesome!!!

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit?
“Singing at church, Mom to my kids, reading, camping, sports with the kids.”

Any advice for new members?
“Just keep coming. It is hard and it doesn’t get easier, but the way you feel as you continue and see progress is beyond anything you can imagine. Also, don’t be afraid to scale the workouts. It’s better to take it easy some days when you just aren’t feeling it or are exhausted than to push too hard and be out with an injury.”

Any additional thoughts/comments:
“I am so grateful to all the coaches and other members for their commitment to health. They are motivating to so many and the coaches are great for feedback and suggestions. I have always felt really comfortable at No Excuses!!!”

Coach Fischer’s Take:
“Kim is always striving for a higher level of performance. It is clear that she wants to get better and her effort always matches that mindset.  She is a hard worker, and she’s always looking for ways to try harder and give just a little more. Her improvement has been a direct result of that “never quit” mentality.”
