Ruth Garcia Basics Spotlight Athlete

Name:Ruth Garcia
Age: 58
Occupation: Real Estate Agent
Favorite WOD so farDeath by kB

Important Stats (if you tested them):

Baseline Time: 7:12 min (4/10/2012) 1 min PR!!

1 mile run: N/A

 1) How long have you been CrossFitting?

I think since September 13, 2011 with a serious commitment to assist 3 times per week.

2) What kept you coming back/motivated?

This is the time for me and I have learned to stop what I am doing when it is the time to do crossfit. Besides being like a therapy to me (I do not think or worry about anything else but doing the WOD), I have seen a great improvement in my health, energy Levels and resistance.

 3) How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

Even though I am never the first to finish the wod, I fell well because I never thought that I would be able to do the exercises I have done here, at no excuses. Level of Fitness? Now I can do pushups; what else can I ask?

 4) What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do?

 PUSH UPS & BURPEES

 5) What is your opinion of the Basics Program at NEA (No Excuses Athletics-CrossFit)?

It is the best way to get used to this type of activity; slowly you will be able to understand the meaning and principles of crossfit and to fall in love with it.

 6) Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit? And one that you have already achieved?

Before crossfitting, I never did a push up in my life and now it is ok to do it. I would like to be able to do good pull-ups, at least one. Also I would like to take control of what I eat.

 7) Any advice for new members, specifically those qualified for the Basics Program?

Do not get discourage when you are the last one to finish the wod; everyone is different and the competition is within you: you want to give the best of you because you want to improve your health, your mind and your soul. In time, you will see the results and you can be proud because you have improved without noticing it.

Additional Comments:

Thank you to every coach for being so patient and carrying; I would not be capable of doing any exercise that I have learned at no excuses without your help.

Coaches Comments or quotes about athlete?

Ruth Garcia is the most determined athlete that I know of here at No Excuses CrossFit. And that is a bold statement to make because of the amount of determination every single member at No Excuses has!  Ruth first started training because her sons had heard about CrossFit and the benefits of the program.   She has come because her life was in the balance.  She was fighting border line diabetes meaning she was pre-diabetic when she came to No Excuses.  Now she eats better than ever, trains harder than before.  We haven’t seen the blood work yet, but my predictions are that her doctors are going to be amazed at the improvements she has made in the last 4-5 months!  keep it up Ruth!  We are here to support you and your family! — The NEA Coaching Staff.
