When I first got involved in CrossFit, one of the things that interested me the most about it was the way that they incorporated Olympic lifts into their programs.  I have trained with weights (off and on) for more than 25 years, but I had never seen a workout program that relied on Olympic-style lifting as one of its foundations.  Once I started doing some of the Olympic lifts as part of the WOD’s,  I was immediately hooked!  However, I realized immediately that these lifts require not only a very specialized technique, but require a great deal of flexibility, and I was sorely lacking in both!

Realizing that I need some extra work on these lifts, I talked to Ben and Chris about getting more involved with Olympic lifting.  I spent two hours working one-on-one with Chris and afterward he designed anOlympic lifting workout that enables me to focus on the key Olympic lifts (Snatch and Clean & Jerk) along with many of the variant lifts (Overhead Squat, Power Clean, etc).  In the eight weeks that I have been working through Chris’ program, I have set personal records on Back Squat, Front Squat, Overhead Squat, Dead Lift, and Power Clean!!!  I am simply AMAZED at the numbers I have put up and how quickly they happened.  I have also noticed that I have more core strength and more explosive hips – which any CrossFit trainer will tell you is the key to almost everything in the CrossFit world – along with significantly greater flexibility!  In fact, I am so hooked that I am actually hoping to compete in a local amateur Olympic lifting competition next year!

Thank you Ben, Chris, and everyone at No Excuses Crossfit for changing my life and opening my eyes to Olympic lifting.  See you on the platform!!! Bill Dunn
